We all probably started the New Year with a few resolutions. This year my husband and I wanted to be more healthy over all. No dieting here, we are making life changes and changing our way of eating was top priority. I spent January focusing on the healthy eating aspect of our resolutions then February hit and it was time to tackle the exercise portion. I had been walking around the block 3 or 4 mornings a week, but knew I’d need a bit more. Last week I decided I could attept a few classes at the base wellness center. I figured going in February would mean that the people who were only going to attend for a few weeks in January would be cleared out so there would be room for this newbie! I started with spinning class and walked a bit funny for the next 24 hours. My legs were sore, but my bottom was more sore! Even with that I’m going to go again this week. I enjoyed the class as much as one can enjoy riding a bike. Then I stepped into my first Zumba class. It was the best hour of workout I’ve ever had. I’m so very out of shape so I was not quite up to speed with everyone else, but I had fun! I’m sure in all my life I have had workouts that have burned more calories, but I’m not in those classes anymore, this class I can see myself enjoying for a long time to come! I laughed a lot which frankly got me through the whole hour. I’m sure I was the entertainment for those around me, but hey I aim to help anyone laugh a little, even if it’s at themselves! This week I’m taking my kids with me. They’re 10 and 6 and they love to dance, so it’ll be a family class! Then they’ll get to laugh at their mom, which makes everything more fun, right!?!?
I have to say if you live near a base with a wellness/workout center find the class schedule and give it a go. It’s FREE and oh so good for you! The expense of classes has always gotten in my way, but now there is no excuse. Next time you’re in Zumba and you see some poor uncordinated girl in front of you, it’s probably me…. I’ll be laughing and having a ball but probably will only be doing 1/10th of the steps correctly! Oh well maybe by next February I’ll be 50/50 on the steps, but at least I’m at the party!!
