The recent flooding in TN has brought about the important role NFAAS plays in Navy Military and Families lives!
Last year I first learned about NFAAS at a hurricane season brief (which had a pitiful turn out by the way). I had briefly heard about it here and there before last year, but no one talked much about how important it really was, or that the spouse/family could log in and use it too.
What is NFAAS?
It is the Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System, https://www.navyfamily.navy.mil .
What it does is track Navy Active Duty and Reservist, NAF and NEX employees, Navy Civilians and family members of all listed above, in case of disaster or emergencies; It’s a way to muster when an evacuation or similar has occurred and you are separated from your spouse or command. Family members can muster if separated from the Navy spouse in the event that their spouse is deployed or has to stay behind (or for any reason); this not only allows the Navy spouse to locate the family member and contact them in case communication has been lost, but it also allows the Navy to locate everyone and help if needed. Also NFAAS is used to report your status after an emergency or disaster, it will allow you a way to communicate your needs, if you’ve had damage to your house, are in need of medical care, etc.
Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS) standardizes a method for the Navy to account, manage, and monitor the recovery process for personnel and their families affected and/or scattered by a wide-spread catastrophic event. The NFAAS provides valuable information to all levels of the Navy chain of command, allowing commanders to make strategic decisions which facilitate a return to stability.
NFAAS allows Navy Personnel to do the following:
- Report Accounting Status
- Update Contact/Location information
- View Reference Information
Before you need the system you can actually log in and update your current info and review everything the system can do. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I encourage you to do so because you never know what could happen tomorrow.
I’m not sure if any of the other branches have anything similar, I would think they do. If you have any info to share on NFAAS or similar programs for the other military branches please share!
