As I write this, today is October 1st and we are getting the house prepared for the movers to arrive in just 4 days. At this moment we still don’t know 100% if my husband will be checking out of his current base on the day we’ve all planned. Hard copy orders have been in our hot little hands for the past month. So we’ve giving notice to our landlord, set up everything with the moving company, and we have everything being shut off. We even have our new house at the next command with a date set to pick up the keys. I’ve been so excited that things were going so smoothly, then the bomb drops. My husband’s orders were cut in the middle, so it doesn’t show him being anywhere for the last 14 months. His current command isn’t anywhere on the orders, so they aren’t prepared to let him move until all that gets fixed. Which makes sense, but then it also falls during the dreaded time when the Navy is out of money and won’t process orders until the beginning of October, which is today. They said that they can’t promise anything, but that they’re pretty sure that all things will come together in the week ahead so we can hit the road on the 7th. We’ll see! I’m taking this moment to write this for you all because who knows when we’ll actually be at our next command, and then when our household goods arrive. I am going to be optomistic and say that they’re going to arrive on the earliest date they gave me, which means that by my birthday I might just be in our new house and with our stuff!
I guess it wouldn’t be a real move unless there was some turmoil, and the past two weeks of trying to get all this figured out has been plenty of turmoil for me. I guess I have had my military spouse on the job training with this. Who knew that even with hard copy orders there could be such a mess. Hopefully by the time you all read this we’ll be all settled into our new home! See you all on the other side of this move and maybe then I won’t be posting on PCSing!
