Photography and Your Duty Station

When we first moved to Germany in 2006 everything was exciting and I enjoyed getting to know the new country. By the end of 2007 I was ready to move back to the USA. The only problem was that we had a few more years left before it was time to PCS. In the spring of 2008 I purchased a new camera, my first DSLR. I had always been a fan of photography and thought a new camera would be a great idea. Being that I was in Europe, I had a lot to take pictures of. I started taking pictures everyday. I went on daily walks and took my camera with me.
Over the next few months I found my love of photography again. I also discovered it made living in Germany a better experience. To capture the buildings, the landscapes and all that Germany had to offer gave me a better understanding of its beauty.
Through sharing my photography on sites such as Flickr I was able to meet others who had taken pictures of the same cities and parts of Europe I did. I found this to be another way I was able to enjoy Germany.
If you are not too excited about your new duty station, photography is a wonderful way to explore your new home. You will see your surroundings in a different way and may start to fall in love with it. If not in love, you may find that photography can help your perspective. I really believe that almost everywhere has beauty. Some places may be harder to find it but it is there. Just go out and explore! You never know what you might find!
