So many of us have similar stories of working or just starting our days when we heard the news. It was life altering. It still is in so many ways. My heart continues to ache for all those affected. I can clearly remember the moments and the disbelief of it all.

I was sitting at my desk in New Hampshire, typing away on pleadings for a case I was working on. My husband called. That morning he was in Boston signing his reenlistment papers. I figured he was calling to say it was said and done. He wasn’t.

I didn’t believe him. After all, he said he heard about it on the Howard Stern Show. Hardly believable to me.

He begged me to bring up the internet to see what I could. It was all happening so fast. Yahoo! was projecting the horror. I watched the second tower. He and I uttered a few words and mostly I felt the air suck out of the room. I didn’t know what was happening, why or how. How could this not be a cruel hoax?

The man in blue, among many others, was in a lockdown status on his base and told to prep for whatever was yet to come.

Now what? What was going to happen?

Quite literally, everyone’s lives stopped and we waited…

FAST FORWARD to that evening, the drive home was eery. I longed to hear from my friends living in NYC. Where were they? Were they alive? No calls in or out. I felt lost as so many millions of others.

We sat in silence and shock that night with a new friend from our apartment building. We bonded over the tragedy and patriotism that was instantly reborn in our Nation that night. I still have chills and tears remembering. Tomorrow I will be silent because that is how I remember. I am not one for fanfare and nonstop chattering about the whole thing – that’s just not me. So this is it, this is my only mention of it. I am silent because of the thousands who were silenced and will forever remain so because of 9-11. I will never forget.
